22 choir events sent to state competition, all large ensemble events receive highest rating at district contests

On April 27, nine of 22 choir vocal events that competed in district contests will go on to compete at the state level at the University Of Missouri. This advancement came from receiving a 1 (exemplary) rating at the contests. Among these acts were seven solos and two small ensembles. Although large ensembles don’t go to state level, all three choirs got a 1 at district contests.
The students going to state are Evie Boyer-Heagle, Tess Brown, Reggie Coleman, Lainey Jester, Abby Jordan, Rachel Mueller and Preather Preuitt for solos; and “Girls Jordan” (Riley Brawn, Tess Brown, Chase Doctor, Lainey Jester, Abby Jordan, Gabby Jordan, Caroline Knapp, and Rachel Mueller) “Men’s Hamilton” (Reggie Coleman, Kyree Hamilton, Ian Intagliata, Alex Lenhardt, Kohl Parker, Tyler Reed-Ingram, Henry Schwartz, and Oscar Schwartz) for small ensembles.
Rachel Mueller, sophomore, one of the students who will be going to state, was surprised but happy to be chosen. She was scared to perform and had struggled with the pieces she performed, but felt like she sang them best at the district contests than she ever had before.
Mueller has attended state in the past, and she received a 1 on both her ensembles, but a 2 for her solo. This time she wants to improve the way she practices.
In preparation for state contests, Mueller plans to focus on individual aspects her performance, such as tone, rhythm, and diction, and will be making sure to give special attention to the parts that she struggles with.

“I’m really happy about it…because I put a lot of work into it and it’s fun to see how I can go places with the work that I did…I’m going to try my best and keep working on it,” Mueller said.
