Black History In The Making

Students preparing for the Black History Month Performance.

To celebrate Black History month this year, the theatre, dance and Music department have decided to honor the month by putting on a Black History-inspired performance. Many of the dancers involved in this experience were very enthusiastic as they expressed their future performance.
“Through knowing about our past, we are better able to shape our future. I feel really fortunate to be able to be a part of something so big.” Joel Breeden, 11th grade, said this about his involvement in Chivas Merchant-Buckman’s abode to 60’s lifestyle.
11th Grader and Class President Maria Pena is involved with the Martin Luther King segment of the performance. It is a full collaboration between the dance, theatre, and Music department.Even though I may not be fully African-American I am still able to appreciate the contributions of Martin Luther King and what he did to spread equality among all people.” Maria Pena had this to say about her involvement in this piece.
Keith Williams and Chivas Merchant-Buckman are the teachers in charge of the dance segments of the performance. The teachers are expecting a lot from their students and it may just become an incredible performance
