Camerata Students Audition for District Choir

“District Choir Triumphs!” read in the subject line of an email sent from Camerata director, Wes Smith. In the start of the semester, Camerata students picked audition pieces and began working with Smith one on one. Mary Chamberlain says, “I auditioned 2 years ago and didn’t get in because of sight singing and this year I wasn’t nervous about singing my piece, but I really was nervous about sight singing.” Sight singing is the art of singing unfamiliar music just by looking at the notes and listening to the starting pitch. Auditioners prepped for a 90 second singing demonstration, key signature identification and sight singing.

Fifteen students auditioned for District Choir on October 10th. Several among those 15 auditioners were chosen to be apart of District Choir: Tess Brown, 10; Mary Chamberlain, 12; Viktor Freesmeier, 12; Sydney Hollins-Lewis, 11; Lainey Jester, 9. “To be honest, I was really surprised because I feel like I didn’t do too well with sight singing, but I’m really excited and honored.”  Chamberlains adds.
