Graphic Design gives students a new outlook on art

File_000One of the new classes offered this year is Graphic Design. Students are able to collaborate with Stl Style; which is a graphic design and screen printing company based in St. Louis. The class will be able to design tee shirts and other merchandise that will be available for their peers to purchase. Visual arts teacher, Ms. Munguia, reached out to Stl Style with her idea to see if they would be interested in working with the school. As a result, students could also learn the business side to graphic design. This opportunity helps students learn how to better work together during the design process to come up with a final product.

Stl Style came in and spoke with the class about their business, and critiqued some of the designs that the students had started working on.

“It’s interesting! Its nice to get good feedback from people who actually are in the field, and know exactly what they’re doing”, said 12th grader, Stacey Cole.

When asked how the graphic design class is going to create and sell the shirts to the school, Katie Davis stated, “We are collaborating with the arts departments, and we are making a tshirt for that department.” Which means that each arts pathway will have a new graphic tee for students to purchase.

Even though the release dates of the tee shirts and other merchandise are unknown, make sure you are on the lookout!
