Five of six students who attended the JEA/NSPA National Journalism Convention in Dallas, Texas participated in write-off contests. Of those five, four received recognition for their work. Each student submitted their work within various categories ranging from news writing, yearbook captions, press law and ethics, to photography and many more. Congratulations to the following students, as they received an Honorable Mention rating in this national competition.

Natalie O’Dell: Photography Portfolio

Caroline Knapp: Yearbook Caption & Copy Writing- Student Life

Tessa Wild: Newswriting

Quinlan Holt: Press Law & Ethics

Students are much more confident in their role on staff having this experience under their belt as a writer.

“It was really stressful and took me about an hour and a half, but I think it was a good experience to have because getting the honorable mention definitely reaffirmed my faith in my caption-writing,” Caroline Knapp, Yearbook Editor-in-Chief said.

This opportunity also made students feel a sense of acceptance in what they are passionate about.

“It makes me feel appreciated and accomplished. I’ve been interested in photography since I was in first grade and I got my first camera. The fact that I’ve accomplished something that shows that passion, makes me very happy, and it shows my growth since I first started.” Natalie O’Dell, Staff Writer said.
