Carol Fuches, SPED teacher

Q: What made you want to come to GCAA?

I retired about 3 years ago, but at home I got bored and missed teaching the kids. So, last year, I was at Elite because I was hired with Confluence, but they closed it. So, the high school CPA was still there, but there were no openings there, so here I am. I like it a lot. The kids are also sweet and everyone is so nice.

Q: How long have you been teaching?

This is my 37th year teaching. I’ve taught everything from early childhood to college. So, I’ve taught both special education and regular education. When I taught at college, it was fun. I did American pop culture to get out of education altogether. But I stopped, because it was too much.

Q: Are you into the arts?

Nope. I grew up playing a lot of sports. I was that kid. I was a runner all throughout college and for many years. My kids have all types of theater and musical talents and I have no idea where they got it, because I am tone deaf.

Q: What are your future goals with your career?

I’m already so far into my career, It’s been so long. I would like to finish my run here at Grand as long as I last. Once I leave, I may go back to teaching college.

Q: Who are your inspirations?

So many. Firstly, my mom, because I was one of the first people to go to college in my family. My mom actually went back to get her degree in her 60’s. That was a biggie seeing her go back to school and I wanted my kids to have the same experience and they did. I would also say my grandma, because she was the one to start beating it in our heads when we were little about college and success. She used to say ‘Even if you want to do hair you better own the salon.’ It was just about being successful in whatever we enjoy and choose to do. I have a lot more. I mean I love Michelle Obama.
