Choir student Preather Preuitt becomes the only Grand Center Arts Academy student to be accepted into the 2017-18 Missouri All-State Choir.

The audition for All-State took place November 1st, at Mary Institute and St. Louis Country Day School. Prospective auditioners (anyone in District Choir) were given the same four-part harmony song to practice and ultimately perform. However, contrary to the All-District audition, the All-State audition song included voices for the three other harmonies but not that of the auditioner. In other words, auditioners could not rely on the song to keep themselves in perfect pitch.

Despite the immense difficulty, Preuitt passed with flying colors, and became one of five selected basses in All-State choir, out of eighteen auditioners for the part.

“[Being accepted is] lit,” said Preuitt. “I feel very special.”

The first All-State Choir audition is in January, and only then will he discover what his new role will encompass.

To other choir students looking to audition for either All-District or All-State choir, Preuitt had some words of advice.

“Definitely audition as many times as you possibly can; it doesn’t matter if you don’t get in, because you’re bound to improve overtime. It is a lot of experience, looks very good to colleges, and that’s definitely something that you would want to put on your resume if you’re thinking of pursuing music.”
