Getting to Know Jordan Cook

What is your title at GCAA? “ I am 8th grade math teacher”
How many years have you been in education? “This is my 7th year”
Where did you get your certification/teaching degree? “ Missouri Baptist University”
Why did you decide to go into education? “My grandma was a teacher and my grandpa was a teacher so I spent a lot of time with them and ya know what I am going to be a teacher”
Where did you work before getting a job at GCAA? “ I worked at Walmart as a cashier, I worked at sonic however I did not do the skates, I substitute taught and then I worked a printing company as well all at the same time by the way”
Why did you choose to apply/accept a position at GCAA? “Ms Speidel contacted and said I am looking for a math teacher and I applied and interviewed and here I am today”
How do you think your previous experience (whether in education or not) will benefit you as a teacher at GCAA?” When I was in college I did a lot of tutoring with a bunch of kids it was this age range with is why I choose this age range”
What has been your favorite part of working at GCAA?
“Definitely the staff and the most definitely administration and the students”
What has been the most challenging part of working at GCAA?
“ I live an hour away from I drive 30 miles each direction teaching math is challenging because a lot of kid come in with a negative attitude towards it another challenge is I have never been artistic so trying to connect with being artistic is hard”
What do you look forward to most this school year? “ well I am the 8th grade team lead at the beginning I was looking at how I could grow I was nervous on trying to make connections with the new kids but that was easy and how I can lead this group of students to being freshman”
Anything else you think you would like me to know about you? “ I am a huge Lakers friend if you ever need help with math I can help if anyone need help with anything else besides math you can talk to me.”
