During the 2016 Grammys, seniors Devin Evans and Carrington Barnes were given the chance to sit among the stars and watch the award show in person.

“I got to the Grammys through my friend Devin Evans, his mother won the lottery and instead of the money she got the trip. She got to choose between the Oscars or the Grammys and she chose the Grammys, since you know we’re both interested in music so it was a nice experience,” Barnes.

Evans explained that the way the Grammys were organized was new and different. Evans stated that there was quite a time crunch for breaks and that they were instructed during specific times to clap and cheer.

“It was a long line of people into the Staples Center and the majority of the people didn’t have a ticket they were just there so they could see the celebrities. If you had a ticket they would take pictures of you, like if you were walking on the carpet. It was nerve racking. I was scared, you know it’s a lot of pictures flashing everywhere. I don’t know how celebrities do this,” said Barnes.

Both attendants stated that they enjoyed Kendrick Lamar’s performance best.

“It was so much soul, even though you all couldn’t see it but if you were there you could see them actually prepping up for his performance in the background. While the performers were singing, in the background there was fire and everybody was looking. We didn’t know whose performance it was. It was Kendrick’s. He had the saxophone playing and his energy! It was nice,” said Evans.

Evans went on to explain just how much he appreciated the experience.

“I have never been out of the city before anyways so I was excited just to see a palm tree. It’s something I will never forget, I will always treasure it, everything we did there was once in a lifetime, unless you get a lucky opportunity,” said Evans.
