The Covering House talks with student body about sex trafficking

Aiya Hunter, Staff Writer

The Covering House is a non-profit organization that provides services for girls who are survivors of sex trafficking and not in need of care in a long-term home. Their provided services include counseling, group therapy, case management, life skills classes, summer day camps, mentoring and tutoring, as well as support for caregivers through their Supportive Adults Program. The Covering House was founded by a woman named Deidre Lhamon, who saw the lack of resources available for young survivors.

Jessica Wilkins, a worker from The Covering House, came to GCAA on Wednesday, December 12. Wilkins discussed the definition of sex trafficking, case studies, national/agency statistics, red flags, and additional resources. The middle school presentation was at 8:30 a.m., ninth and tenth grade 9:20 a.m., and eleventh and twelfth grade at 10:20 a.m.
