Students’ Stress for AP, then Relax
Students in GCAA on dealing with the pressures of testing.
During the month of April, many students were preparing to take several important tests, some for the first time. A few sophomores are finished with the AP World History exam, and some juniors are finished with the AP US History exam.
Most AP World History students showed mixed emotions when asked about their feelings on the test. Tazera Edwards, 10th grade, said, “I’m not really stressing that much about the test.”
Casey Jagusch, the AP World History teacher, had this to say in regards to sophomores who were taking the test: “It’s the first time for a lot of them to be taking this kind of test, and the level of difficulty of the course may have frightened some of them but it’s all worth it. To be able to take this test and to say I completed a college level course will really boost their academic confidence.”
For the junior class, most of the students enrolled in AP US History have already taken the exam. With the help of a practice exam and a Learning Lab group dedicated to studying for the test, many juniors were not as worried on how the test would go.
Kaya Brody, 11th grade, said, “With the help that I had in the practice exam I feel much more prepared to take the actual test, and with all the help Mr. Dinwiddie has provided me I feel much more relaxed.”
APUS History teacher Benjamin Dinwiddie, had this helpful piece of advice for all of his AP students: “Stress out about studying, when you stress out about studying you’re more likely to do it. Then when you take the test you won’t be stressing about it, because you did all you could.”
Juniors took the APUS History exam on the 5th of May, while the sophomores took the World History Exam on the 14th.
